1. COMMON MISTAKES WHEN APPLYING VIETNAM VOA
There are common mistakes that may occur when applying for Visa on Arrival (VOA) for Vietnam.
1.1. NO LETTER OF INVITATION/GUARANTEE PAPER FROM GUARANTEE UNIT IN VIETNAM.
The invitation letter or guarantee demonstrates that you have a valid purpose for entering Vietnam and that there is a contact in Vietnam who will assist and oversee your trip. This is a necessary condition for the Visa on Arrival (VOA) application process. Failure to provide an invitation letter/guarantee will result in denial of the VOA.
1.2. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE ON THE STANDARD OF PORTRAIT PHOTOS
Following regulations for portrait photos used in Vietnam visa applications:
- Photo size: 4x6cm (or 2×2 inches)
- Photo background: White or light-coloured background
- Portrait requirements: The photo must clearly show the individual’s facial features with no hair covering the face. Do not wear glasses, hats, scarves (except for religious reasons), or other face-covering accessories. Keep your eyes looking straight and do not smile.
- Image quality: The photo should be high resolution with true colors, no fading, and no stains.
- Time taken: The photo must be taken within 06 months from the date of the visa application submission.
Non-compliance with these regulations will result in the immigration agency requesting that you resubmit your application.
1.3. THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE VISA APPLICATION DOES NOT MATCH THE INFORMATION IN THE PASSPORT
Many people fail to carefully review the information in their visa application, leading to discrepancies with their passport information. It is crucial to accurately fill in details such as full name, passport number, and date of birth, as errors can lead to visa application rejection. This would require adjustments and resubmission, resulting in unnecessary loss of time and disruption to your travel plans to Vietnam.
1.4. DO NOT ASK TO VIETNAM VOA FIRST
Some individuals wrongly assume that they can obtain a VOA visa directly at the Vietnam airport, resulting in being denied entry. When applying for a VOA visa, it’s important to apply online in advance to receive a visa approval letter. You can then get your visa stamped at the airport upon your arrival in Vietnam.
1.5. SPELLING OR TYPING ERRORS WHEN WRITING VISA APPLICATION
Spelling or typing errors in visa applications are also common. These errors can cause the information in the application to not match the passport. Therefore, it’s important to carefully review your visa application before submitting it to ensure there are no errors
1.6. UNCERTAIN ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF VIETNAM VISA
It’s important to note that a visa’s validity begins from the date of registration in the visa application, not from the date of entry into the country. You are allowed to enter the country after this date, but not before the visa’s effective date. Therefore, it’s crucial to plan carefully before applying for a visa to make sure everything is clear.
1.7. DATE FILLING ERROR
When completing the VOA application, it’s important to be mindful of the date format used in Vietnamese documents. Unlike in some other countries, dates in Vietnam are written in the structure of day/month/year. For example, if you intend to enter Vietnam on July 5, 2024, ensure that you write “July 5, 2024” on the application. Writing “May 7, 2024” instead of “July 5, 2024” may lead to your application being rejected.
2. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY VIETNAM VISA IS REJECTED?
Here are some things you should do if your Vietnam visa is rejected:
2.1. CONTACT WITH VIETNAM VISA EMBASSY/CONSULATE
You should reach out to the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in your country to understand in detail the reasons for the rejection and to receive specific instructions on how to rectify it. The staff there can provide you with the most accurate and useful information about your application status.
