According to current regulations of the Government of Vietnam, citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) are exempt from visas when entering Vietnam for a temporary stay of up to 45 days. This is specifically stipulated in Resolution No. 32/NQ-CP in 2022, amended by Resolution No. 128/NQ-CP in 2023, effective from August 15, 2023. The visa exemption policy applies to citizens of 13 countries, including the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, facilitating British citizens to enter Vietnam without having to apply for a visa in advance.

Conditions for visa exemption:

Temporary stay: UK citizens are allowed to stay in Vietnam for no more than 45 days from the date of entry. After 45 days, if they want to continue their stay, they need to exit and re-enter to be exempted from the visa for another 45 days, or they can apply for appropriate visas to stay longer.

Passport type and purpose of entry: The visa exemption policy for UK citizens applies to all types of passports, regardless of whether they are ordinary passports, official passports or diplomatic passports. Furthermore, UK citizens can enter Vietnam for any purpose (tourism, business, visiting relatives, etc.) without needing a visa.

Entry conditions: UK citizens must still comply with Vietnam’s legal regulations on entry conditions, such as having a passport valid for at least 6 months, not being on the list of prohibited entry, and other medical or security requirements if applicable.

Duration of visa exemption policy for British citizens entering Vietnam

According to current regulations, the visa exemption policy for citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) when entering Vietnam is valid for 3 years, starting from March 15, 2022 and lasting until March 14, 2025. During this period, British citizens can enter Vietnam without a prior visa, with the condition of staying no more than 45 days for each entry. When the visa exemption policy expires on March 14, 2025, Vietnam will conduct an assessment and consider extending this policy. The review process will comply with the provisions of Vietnamese law, to ensure compliance with the actual situation and the country’s foreign policy.
